Larkhall drug mule remanded ahead of sentencing after being caught with coke worth £1.2m

A man was caught with £1.2m of cocaine after being snared by police last July.

Ian Caulfield, 34, was held when a Mercedes Sprinter van he was driving was stopped on the M74 near Abington.

Prosecutor Bill McVicar told the High Court in Glasgow how blocks of white powder were discovered in the vehicle.

The haul was later found to contain cocaine.

Caulfield, of Larkhall, pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of the drug.

QC John Scullion told the hearing: "He is someone who previously had his own difficulties with the misuse of cocaine.

"This resulted in him owing money to others. He became involved in this in an attempt to repay the debt.

"The vehicle involved had been borrowed from a friend."

Lord Richardson deferred sentencing until August 30 in Edinburgh.

Caulfield had been on bail prior to appearing in the dock.

But, the judge told Caulfield: "I will remand you in custody meantime."
