I ventured to the independent donut shop Doogle's to sample their products and I was completely blown away.
I was relatively late to donuts - being a somewhat weight obsessed teenager; decadent, calorie-laden treats were a big no-no, but I've more than made up for that in adulthood. After finally getting around to sampling Krispy Kreme donuts, I was instantly hooked.
They're packed with flavour, they're rich and sweet, and there's plenty of options. I was keen to see if Merseyside-founded independent Doogle's donuts could compare and, as you can tell from my headline, they absolutely did.

Doogle's Donuts first opened in September 2020 in the former Beautiful You salon in the heart of Prescot town centre. It sells freshly baked gourmet donuts and a variety of hot drinks.
The shop proved popular, with queues to snap up its extensive selection of donuts often stretching onto the street outside. The popular food venue went on to launch a second site on the bohemian, booming Lark Lane, with a third store in Kirkby following shortly after.
I visited the Lark Lane store, which is a small yet stylish spot with atmospheric lighting, a vibrant neon sign telling customers they "might as well", wooden benches topped with seat pads and cushions, and walls clad in wood. The ceiling is adorned with fairy lights, leading customers to the huge counter which is home to an impressive array of donuts and pastries.
There was the perfectly named Homer donut - a pink ring with sprinkles, what else? - plain donuts filled with Nutella, caramel custards, Milky Buttons, Kinder Buenos, raspberry cheesecakes and more. After quite some deliberation, I opted for a Lotus donut.
Lotus Biscoff products have taken the dessert world by storm in recent years, with milkshakes, cheesecakes, ice cream and all manner of treats whipped up and sold to adoring masses. Its unique and distinguished taste is the stuff of dreams; it's creamy and sweet without being sickly, and it's incredibly versatile.
Doogle's Lotus creation is a perfectly rounded treat, packed with a rich, thick Biscoff filling, topped with a creamy glaze and sprinkled with crushed Lotus biscuits, with one on top nestled into an extra dollop of Biscoff spread for good measure. Upon the first bite, I was ready to pledge myself to a diet made up entirely of Doogle's donuts.
I didn't want it to end, it was completely and utterly divine. It was cooked to absolute perfection, with a soft, doughy consistency perfectly complemented by the rich and brilliantly executed filling.
I will be recommending these sweet treats to anyone and everyone I encounter for the rest of my life and I urge you to try one for yourself. I'm also confident I'll be popping into Doogle's to snap up another donut whenever I walk by.
This won't be ideal for my waistline, but it will be well worth it - autumn is the season of comfort food and I intend to make the most of it. Doogle's Donuts is based on Lark Lane, Liverpool, L17 8UP.
