Reports of 'teen rushed to hospital after stabbing' in Lanarkshire town

Police remain on the scene in East Kilbride this morning after reports of a stabbing in the town.

Lanarkshire Live understands a teenager was rushed to hospital after an incident last night.

The attack is said to have happened between 9pm and 10pm in the Calderwood Square area of the town.

Now Police are asking for help from the public to determine what happened, however, have not yet provided a comment on the incident.

Taking to social media last night, one local described the aftermath: “Police everywhere, ambulance, paramedics - apparently someone got stabbed.”

One local posted online: “It’s bad news everywhere you turn.” But another jumped to the defence of the town.

She wrote Facebook: “A lot worse places than EK, but every time something happens it’s the same reaction.

“These thing’s unfortunately happen, no matter where you live - EK is far from the worst place.”

Large parts of the area remain taped off this morning and inaccessible to the wider public.

One local told us this morning: "The square is closed off, there are police vans blocking each entrance - it must be bad."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
