Larger premises could reopen May 17

The government is planning the next round of easing disease control measures and reopening of larger premises on May 17, while keeping restrictions on returnees and efforts to reduce large gatherings.

"The relaxation will happen unless the (new Covid-19 case) number soars," Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said.

Businesses with small premises were allowed to reopen last Sunday, and the level of cooperation with disease control measures would determine if the second round of easing and reopening of larger premises could happen, he said.

Dr Taweesilp said CCSA decided to maintain the measures for returnees and large gatherings because both had been main transmission points for Covid-19.

"Covid-19 is spreading in other countries, and nations that ease disease control measures may experience new waves of the virus," Dr Taweesilp said.
