Large sum of money stolen during daytime robbery at city centre business

A man has been arrested after a large sum of money was stolen from a business in the city centre yesterday afternoon.

The incident took place shortly before 3pm yesterday after a man entered a premises in the Dublin 2 area and demanded money. He then fled the scene with what gardai described as a "large sum of money".

A man in his 20s was arrested later that evening in connection with the robbery. He is currently being held at Pearse Street garda station with a spokesman for the force saying investigations into the incident continue.

He said: "Gardaí have arrested one man in relation to an investigation into a robbery at the theft of a commercial premises in Dublin 2 yesterday, Tuesday 23rd August 2022. Shortly before 3pm yesterday, a lone male entered the premises and demanded a sum of cash. He fled the scene on foot a short time later with a large sum of money.

Following inquiries by Gardaí attached to the Serious Crime Unit in Pearse Street Garda Station, a male (aged in his 20s) was arrested yesterday evening, Tuesday 23rd August 2022. He is currently detained in Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984."
