Large-scale drug lab bust in Sydney

Police say they've uncovered a large-scale illicit drug lab in Sydney's inner west. (AAP)

A clandestine drug lab has been uncovered in a unit's garage in Sydney's inner west and more than $600,000 in cash and silver and gold bullion has been seized, police say.

The discovery at a unit complex in Rhodes and the arrest of a suspect followed investigations by Strike Force Smede detectives into the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney.

Police said officers executed a search warrant at the address on Friday morning to find the clandestine lab in the garage of the unit, including equipment and chemicals consistent with illicit drug making.

About 10 kilograms of liquid, powder and crystal - believed to be various form of methylamphetamine 'ice' - was located, police said.

Officers also executed a search warrant at a vault at Castlereagh Street, Sydney.

Police said about $400,000 in cash, about $230,000 worth of silver and gold bullion and a large amount of ammunition were seized in the raids.

A 47-year-old man was arrested at the Rhodes unit and charged with making and supplying drugs of more than a large commercial quantity and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Bail Court on Saturday.
