Large police presence following reports of person killed in collision with car in Stockport

There was a large police presence following reports that a person had been killed in a collision with a car in Stockport.

From around 7.40pm on Wednesday, a large number of police cars attended the Cale Green area, around Heath Road.

Cale Green was closed in both directions from Adswood Lane East to Bramhall Lane and a police cordon was erected.

The Manchester Evening News understands that a person is believed to have died.

Pictures from the scene show a large police presence, with both uniformed officers and detectives at the scene.

A silver Seat was seen inside the police cordon.

One eyewitness reported that they saw someone lying down in the road before the incident.

Another witness said they saw a 'body covered up in the road' and a representative of the coroner's office was in attendance.

Residents hearing of the news have called the incident 'absolutely heart-breaking' and a 'tragic accident'.

This evening crash investigators were also at the scene.

Neighbours in the area who earlier shared their thoughts in the wake of the incident said: "Hope no one is seriously hurt."

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
