Large police presence at 'ongoing incident' in Rutherglen

More than a dozen police cars have been called to a Rutherglen street to deal with an ‘ongoing incident’.

One eye witness claimed they saw dozens of officers rush to the scene to deal with what appeared to be a stabbing.

They said: "There was a whole lot of blood.

"I think there's been a stabbing. It looks crazy out there.

"There was about 13 police cars outside Ruglen Rolls, including SWAT. It looks like police have closed part of the street off too for investigations.

"CID arrived on the scene a few hours later around 9.30am. "

Another eyewitness claimed they saw dozens of officers entering a block of flats at Greenhill Court, they said: “The whole street is absolutely heaving with police cars. I counted more than 12 of them. There were marked ones and an unmarked one that had officers in it.

“The police were going into a block of flats but I don’t know what was happening. I just wanted to get out of there in case it was something really serious.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "“Around 7am on Monday, August 3, officers were called to a report of a man injured on Greenhill Road, Rutherglen following an assault.

"Police and Ambulance attended and the 45 year-old man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital.

"Police enquiries are ongoing in the area to establish more information on this incident.”
