Large police presence as 'body found' in children's park

A large police presence descended on a children's play park amid reports a body was found this morning.

Forensic officers from Merseyside Police could be seen working inside Queens Park in St Helens shortly after 9am on Sunday.

Unconfirmed reports from neighbours and dog walkers who visited the park this morning claimed a body was found in the children's play area of the park.

Merseyside Police confirmed there was an "ongoing police incident" in the area but declined to release any further details when contacted by the ECHO.

A number of people reported seeing a forensic tent inside the park, with one woman saying police had begun making door to door enquiries at properties neighbouring the park.

Queens Park borders a number of streets in St Helens, but police activity appears to be clustered around Dilloway Street, which is closest to the play area.

One resident reported seeing a police van and two cars in the area, with another woman claiming police told her they were called to the incident in the early hours of Sunday.

We will bring you any further updates on this ongoing police incident on our website.
