Large police presence after woman dies in Bristol

A woman died along one of Bristol's busiest roads today despite medics' efforts to save her.

Police deployed several crews to Gloucester Road after ambulance workers called for back-up this evening (Monday, November 29).

Officers are treating the woman's death as "unexplained" but not suspicious.

A passer-by reported seeing a "huge police and ambulance presence" at the top of the road, in the direction of Southmead Hospital.

He said he saw eight police cars, two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle.

Avon and Somerset Police has now confirmed the reason for the large emergency service presence.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 6.20pm we were called to assist the ambulance service while they treated a woman on Gloucester Road.

“Sadly, the woman died at the scene.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained, but we don’t currently believe there are any suspicious circumstances at this time.”

No further details were given about the circumstances in which the woman was found.
