'Large plume of smoke' seen overhead as firefighters tackle waste site blaze in Ilkeston

Firefighters were dispatched to a blaze at a waste site where a "large plume of smoke" could be seen overhead.

The fire broke out at a waste site in Ilkeston on Monday evening, May 17.

Crews from Ilkeston and Stapleford both rushed to the scene - and the fire was soon brought under control to stop it from spreading.

A spokesperson for Stapleford Fire Station said: "A large plume of smoke could be seen across the area while we got to work, however this blaze was quickly bought under control.

"Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used high pressure hose reel jets to quickly set about stopping the fire spread.

"We work closely with business owners, so that should an incident happen, we can respond quickly and safely."

Pictures taken at the scene show crews working at the scene to bring the fire under control, using a hose reel to extinguish it.
