Large new hotel planned for opposite Royal Liverpool Hospital to replace apartment scheme

New plans for a large hotel in Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter have replaced previous proposals for a 142-bedroom apartment block that already had planning permission.

According to developer Elliot Group, the shake-up is in response to the "continued high demand for hotel accommodation in the city", and a planning application has been submitted for the site facing out onto Prescot Street.

Falconer Chester Hall's Liverpool branch has designed the 278-bed hotel that will be situated opposite the current Royal Liverpool Hospital on the current Aura site - and there are hopes the application will be determined by the city council's planning authority in November.

Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group, which today released the first image of the proposed development, said: "Paddington Village and the new hospital are driving demand for accommodation in this part of the city so the moves makes absolute strategic sense."

According to the group, the Aura scheme is currently on site, with Liverpool-based contractor Vermont delivering more than 1,000 new student beds over two blocks.

The gross development value of the project will be £100m when complete, a spokesman said.

Zerum Consult is advising Elliot Group on the planning application.
