Large increase in coronavirus cases confirmed on first weekend as lockdown is eased

More cases of the coronavirus have been reported across Nottinghamshire on the first weekend since the lockdown was loosened.

From Wednesday, May 13, people were allowed unlimited exercise and time outdoors. They could also visit a friend or family member outside their household at two metres apart.

On Friday, May 15, the Government has confirmed 571 cases in Nottingham city and a further 1,232 in Nottinghamshire.

But this number has jumped on Saturday, May 16, to 587 cases in Nottingham and 1,290 cases across Nottinghamshire.

This means there has been an extra 16 cases across Nottingham and 58 new cases across Nottinghamshire.

The total number of Covid-19 associated UK deaths now stand at 34,466. These are deaths of people who have had a positive test result confirmed by a Public Health or NHS laboratory.
