Large garda presence as John Hutch funeral takes place in Dublin

A visible garda presence surrounded the funeral of John Hutch in Dublin this morning.

John, brother of Gerry “The Monk" Hutch, tragically died last Thursday after falling down stairs.

Despite the large garda presence, Gerry was not in attendance at the funeral of his 66-year-old brother, who had no involvement in criminality.

John's coffin was led in and out of the church by a band of bagpipes as hundreds made their way into The Church of the Holy Family on Aughrim Street in Stoneybatter.

He was remembered fondly as a caregiver to his family, whose capacity to care for his family was hampered by continued threats to his life.

John had previously survived two attempted hits by the Kinahan cartel.

His son Gareth and brother Eddie, who were both killed as part of the Hutch-Kinahan feud, were also remembered during the mass.

John will be laid to rest in Glasnevin Cemetery today and is survived by his wife Vera and extended family.
