Large fire breaks out at Garston nursery school

Firefighters tonight tackled a large blaze which broke out at a Garston nursery.

Initially two fire engines were sent out to the Honey Pot day nursery in Earp Street shortly after 7.45pm.

On arrival, they found one building well alight.

As the fire escalated, the fire service presence was increased to three engines and an aerial platform ladder.

The fire sent large plumes of smoke billowing across the area.

At this stage it is not known what caused the fire, or whether it was started deliberately.

A spokesperson for Mersey Fire & Rescue Service said: "We are currently attending a building fire.

"We were called at 7.48pm and firefighters are still at the scene."

The cause of the blaze at the day nursery is not yet known (Liverpool Echo)

The Garston day nursery is one of three in Liverpool - the others are in Aigburth and Childwall.
