Large emergency services response with two in hospital after horse riding accident

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital after they were thrown from startled horses.

There was a large emergency services response to the incident which took place on Lakes Road, in Marple.

Fire crews used stretchers to assist the pair.

They were then treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

The incident took place just after 10am on Thursday, July 9.

Residents in the area described seeing large number of ambulance, fire engines and police cars this morning.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At just after 10am on Thursday, July 9, two fire engines from Marple and Offerton and specialist appliances from Ashton-under-Lyne assisted North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) at an incident near Lakes Road, Marple, involving a man and a woman who had been thrown from startled horses.

“Crews used stretchers to assist the pair before handing over to colleagues from NWAS. Firefighters were in attendance for around two hours.”
