Large emergency service response in Gorton after child falls from a window

A large emergency service response in Gorton yesterday was sparked by a child falling from a window, it has been confirmed.

It happened on Chatsworth Road, just off Hyde Road, shortly before 4pm on Saturday evening.

A ten-year-old boy fell from a window of a property on the street, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Pictures from the scene showed numerous paramedic vehicles as well as officers at the scene, where the street was taped off.

There were also reports of the air ambulance landing off nearby Garratt Way.

One resident on the street claimed the boy had fallen from a top-floor window.

Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

"We didn't see what happened but we heard the ambulance," said one woman living nearby who did not want to be named.

"We didn't know if they were going to go straight through the street but they stopped right outside.

"The police then turned up and blocked the road and were telling everyone to get back and move out of the way as lots of people were out seeing what was going on.

"We were obviously really worried.

"But one of the police officers told us he was going to be okay which was a big relief."

"I just saw them loading a young lad into the back of an ambulance," another nearby resident said.

"I had no idea what had happened though.

"There were police vans across the street so no one could get down"

In a statement, GMP said: "Shortly before 4pm yesterday (Saturday 31 July 2021), police were called to Chatsworth Road in Gorton, Manchester to reports that a child had fallen from a window.

"Emergency services attended and a ten-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he received treated for a broken wrist.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident."
