Swansea local Sylvia Lee said it was the first time in 20 years of living in the local area that she had spotted a dolphin frolicking in the Swansea Channel just opposite the local RSL Club.

The near three-metre creature, by Sylvia's estimate, was said to be looking in excellent health and has been a welcome site for local boaties.

"I have a friend who has a boat in the marina at Belmont South," Sylvia said, "And each time he takes the boat out he says the dolphin is there to great the boaties."

Sylvia, a one-time volunteer for the Swansea Marine Rescue said she was passing the bridge over the channel just after midday as the tide was beginning to recede when she spotted the dolphin in crystal-clear waters and snapped a short video.

Sylvia said during her time with the Marine Rescue, she had become accustomed to seeing two local rock seals that regular visit the channel, but, for two decades in the Hunter, had not been lucky enough to spot a dolphin there until Thursday.
