Large disused plot of land could be transformed into gym, hotel and restaurant

A gym, restaurant and hotel could all be built in south Liverpool under plans set to be approved next week.

The new development, on a plot of land just off Speke Boulevard, would be built opposite the New Mersey Retail Park and Dobbies Garden Centre.

Councillors from Liverpool council's planning committee will consider the project next week, with officers recommending it for approval.

It would mean a large empty site just off Speke Boulevard could be developed after years of standing empty.

Councillors will decide on the application next week. (Liverpool Echo)

A report submitted to councillors suggests the development on the site of a former tea factory could include a range of uses, though its focus isn't on shops given the location of the retail park nearby.

The report says: "The development proposals comprise a mixed use scheme consisting of industrial trade counters, comparison retail, Gym/leisure, family pup/restaurant and a drive-thru café.

"These uses will be split across 10 new units, 5 of which fall into B8 trade counter use, 2 comparison retail units and 1 unit of each remaining use. The proposed occupiers of these units are not yet confirmed."

Documents submitted with the planning application suggest it could create more than 450 jobs through construction and contribute an extra £1.2m for the council annually through business rates.

Councillors will consider the application next Tuesday.
