Large blaze on Middleton Ring Road, Leeds, for second time in a matter of weeks

A large blaze broke out on a main road in Leeds this morning.

Multiple fire engines and emergency services were seen in Middleton, Leeds, from around 8:30am after a bin lorry caught alight.

Firefighters had partially closed areas of Middleton Ring Road as they dealt with the situation.

Thankfully, no-one was injured in the incident.

A statement from West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service read: "Two fire engines from Hunslet fire station attended the area of Middleton Park Circus, Leeds after an emergency call was received by the Fire Service Control Room at 8.40am today (25/03/21).

"This was a fire involving a bin lorry.

"There were no reports of any injuries."

This is the second time that a fire has broken out in the exact area of Middleton.

Just weeks ago, a fire involving a vehicle had closed parts of Middleton Ring Road, with firefighters able to tend to the scene quickly and putting out the fire.

After the second blaze this morning, residents have now expressed their concern.

Deborah Renner, who lives on the road, said: "What on earth is going on, this is the second time this has happened in this exact same spot. It feels deliberate."

Another resident said: "It's concerning. Why would their be fires breaking out in the exact same spot, so close to our houses. What happens if the fire expands before firefighters get here next time?"
