CHIANG MAI: A large quantity of methamphetamine and heroin was seized from a pickup, and the driver arrested, at a military checkpoint in Chiang Dao district on Tuesday night.

Pha Muang Force commander Maj Gen Narit Thawornwong said at a press conference on Wednesday that the Isuzu pickup was stopped and searched on rural road 1178 at Lo Pa Han, or Moo 4 village, in tambon Muang Na.

The vehicle was  loaded with packages containing 1,252,000 methamphetamine pills and about 8.75 kilogrammes of heroin, believed to have been smuggled across the border in the North.

Navin Pisanwattana, 52, the driver, was arrested.

The investigation was continuing, he said.
