Large amount of cannabis seized from town centre raid

Nottinghamshire Police have seized a large amount of cannabis after a raid in Retford town centre.

Drugs were discovered at a disused building around 3:25am on Sunday (March 24).

The area around the Carolgate property remains cordoned off as investigations are carried out, LincolnshireLive reports.

A hole in the ground has also been cordoned off by police, which is understood to be related to the incident.

Photographer Anna Draper, who has been at the scene today, said: “There are police cars around the back and apparently some police vans but I can’t see them.

“At the front there is a hole in the ground with police tape around it.

“It is very quiet. It smells of cannabis – there are whiffs of it now and then.”

Nottinghamshire Police have not yet specified how much cannabis has been found but say officers are still clearing the building.

A force spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of the discovery of a large amount of cannabis in a disused building in Carolgate, Retford, at around 3.25am on Sunday, March 24, 2019.

“Carolgate was temporarily closed while officers conducted enquiries and has since reopened.

“Officers remain at the scene to clear the building.”
