NEW YORK _ If you're one of the 800,000 workers who are not getting paid because of the federal government shutdown, President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump wants you to understand this isn't about you.
"Listen this is, it's not fair to you and we all get that, but this is so much bigger than any one person," Trump said in an interview with Bold TV. "It is a little bit of pain, but it's going to be for the future of our country, and their children and their grandchildren and generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice."
The 36-year-old former "Inside Edition" producer married Eric Trump in 2017. He serves as a trustee for his father's company.
"Right now, I know it's hard," Lara Trump said of the sacrifices being made by federal workers while the president holds out for $5.7 billion to begin construction on a wall across the U.S. border with Mexico. "I know people have families, they have bills to pay, they have mortgages, they have rents that are due."
Lara Trump assured workers affected by the Dec. 22 government shutdown _ now in its 32nd day _ that the president will find a solution soon.
"So, I would just tell them please stay strong. We appreciate everything that you're sacrificing," she said. "We're behind you and we're going to do everything we can. I know the president is doing everything he can to resolve this quickly."
Trump and "Bold TV" host Carrie Sheffield _ who said she brought up the shutdown "because it's trending right now" _ then briefly discussed suntans during the interview.
