Langley Castle Gastronomy night will combine star-gazing with a heavenly menu

A heavenly evening of food and entertainment is being served up this April in a joint event being hosted by Langley Castle and Kielder Observatory.

Besides a menu of "star quality" cuisine, diners will be able to learn all about the night skies from Gary Fildes who founded the renowned observatory in Northumberland , an area enjoying international recognition as a Dark Sky Park.

The Gastronomy event will take place on April 16 at the 14th Century castle at Langley, near Hexham, and its dramatic backdrop will add to the atmosphere of the night which is set to begin with a drink and canapés.

Gary will share his astronomical expertise before dinner and then will follow up after the meal with a half-hour presentation about the wonders of the universe.

In between, guest can enjoy a two-course menu devised by the castle's new chef James O’Brien, who has previously worked at Storrs Hall in Cumbria  as well as at Gleneagles and Wedgwood The Restaurant in Scotland.

Then, keeping fingers crossed for the weather, diners can head outside where Gary and his team will point out the starry wonders on view in the night sky.

Margaret Livingstone-Evans, Langley's new executive general manager who came up with the idea of a Gastronomy event, said she is thrilled to have Gary attend what will be a "memorable experience".

"Gary’s enthusiasm for astronomy is intoxicating," she said.

"It promises to be one of the most engaging evenings staged here at Langley Castle.”

Tickets for the event cost £45  and are limited. To book, email reservations@langleycastle.com or call 01434 688 888.
