Langford accident: Car flies off road into ditch after crash with lorry

A man was trapped inside a car and almost completely submerged in bushes after a lorry crash in North Somerset.

Firefighters had to cut the man free following a two-vehicle collision yesterday evening (Monday, September 21), involving a HGV and a silver car.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said it happened on the A38 Langford Loop Bridge Bypass, and that police and ambulance crews were also sent to the scene.

The car ended up in a ditch after leaving the road upon impact.

Information released by the fire service this morning said: "Crews from Weston-Super-Mare, Avonmouth, Blagdon and Winscombe fire stations were mobilised to reports of a two-vehicle RTC.

"On arrival, firefighters found one vehicle had left the roadway with one male casualty trapped inside.

"Firefighters used hydraulic tools and small gear to rescue the casualty before handing him over to the paramedics on scene. Police were also in attendance."

The ambulance service has not yet confirmed the extent of any injuries.

Winscombe Fire Station tweeted dramatic images of the rescue operation, showing firefighters climbing inside the car.

They said it had "left the carriageway and entered the ditch", but did not provide further details about the circumstances of the collision.
