Lanes closed after Bank Holiday brawl breaks out on motorway

Motorway lanes have been closed by police after a fight broke out among drivers following a crash.

North West Motorway Police posted on Twitter to state that lanes three and four on the M6 Northbound had been closed due to the incident shortly before 4pm.

Officers were called to the crash which was believed to have happened close to the Thelwall Viaduct in Warrington .

On Twitter NW Motorway Police tweeted about the crash and a number of drivers who had ignored the red X's above the two lanes.




"Police in attendance assisting Highways but impeded getting to scene due to motorists ignoring the red X's.

Concern as toddler found wandering alone after 8pm in Wirral street  

"Our vehicles have CCTV fitted registration numbers have been captured."

A short time later however, officers online announced that a fight had broken out shortly after the collision.

They tweeted: "Lane closures set on Thelwall viaduct after a fight broke out in lanes 3 & 4 following an RTC.

"Picture 1 is the scene and the following pictures are 800 yards further back of vehicles using closed lanes who are a few of many that can expect to hear from officers in coming weeks."

According to travel site INRIX long delays should be expected in the area.

The tweet said: "Two lanes closed on the M6 NB Thelwall viaduct due to an RTC.
