Lane Kiffin celebrates Ole Miss vacating two wins over Alabama

Ole Miss earned a two-year bowl ban in 2017 after an NCAA investigation uncovered a “lack of institutional control” over the program, and while the case is now closed, it was reported this week that Ole Miss will be forced to vacate 33 wins over a period from 2010 to 2016 – which includes two major upset wins over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Current Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin, who suffered two losses to the Rebels as Alabama’s offensive coordinator, was overjoyed by the news.

Kiffin joined Alabama as the offensive coordinator in 2014, and the Crimson Tide lost 23-17 on the road in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium just over a month into the season.

Alabama rebounded with five wins over ranked conference opponents, including a win over then-No. 1 Mississippi State, but eventually lost in the College Football Playoff to Ezekiel Elliott and Ohio State.

The next year, Alabama lost to Ole Miss again, this time at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide were perfect for the rest of the season, and went on to defeat Clemson for the national title.

The Tigers would get revenge the following year – but only after Alabama fired Kiffin weeks before the College Football Playoff final.
