Lane Johnson working to be recognized as NFL’s best RT despite stigma of PED suspensions

Lane Johnson is one of the best right tackles in the NFL today but his reputation and legacy will always have an asterisk hovering over him because of multiple PED suspensions. In June of 2014, Johnson was suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season, yet was still graded as the second-best right tackle and was ranked the 13th overall offensive linemen by Pro Football Focus.

In January of 2016, Johnson signed a six-year, $63 million extensions with $35.5 million guaranteed. Then in August in the midst of training camp, Johnson was hit with a ten-game suspension for another PED violation. The suspension voided the last year of his new deal and cost him $7.74 million in guarantees.

Johnson has remained one of the best right tackles in the NFL, but during a sit down with John Clark of NBC 10, the Eagles star questioned his validity as a Hall of Famer because of his missteps.

“It doesn’t matter if I make 7 Pro Bowls. As far as the Hall of Fame. I don’t think I deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. Even if I did accomplish those things. Because of my suspensions. I don’t think it would be right”

Johnson for his part hinted that he’s perfectly fine with only being in the Eagles ring of honor one day, stating “I just want to be known as a true blue Philadelphia Eagle.”
