Lane Johnson thinks last seasons struggles will make Carson Wentz a ‘better player’

Despite what some critics might consider an average NFL season for a top-flight signal caller, Carson Wentz still put up pretty solid numbers in 11 games Last season, completing a career-high 69.6 percent of his passes, for 3,074 yards and 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Wentz put up those numbers while returning from a torn ACL/LCL, just ten months after suffering the injury. It’s unknown how long he really played with the fracture in his back, but he battled and showed courage along the way. Wentz had his bumps and bruises, being accused of targeting Zach Ertz too much and then in a column that sent shock waves through the city of Philadelphia, the Eagles star was accused of being “selfish” and a “bully.”

Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson is one of Wentz’ most loyal supporters and on Wednesday while a guest on SiriusXM radio, he predicted that Carson’s 2018 struggles would give him the proper motivation to have a bounce-back season.

“He’s taking everything from last year in stride, it humbled everybody, it humbled me. I think it’s gonna make him a better football player”

During the opening of the Eagles OTAs, Wentz worked without a brace on his knee for the first time since the devastating injury suffered against the Rams 17 months ago. Wentz brought energy to the field and should benefit from working with players Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, JJ Arcega-Whiteside and DeSean Jackson for the first time.
