On July 22, the Hassan district administration has appealed to motorists travelling between Mangaluru and Bengaluru to take the Belur-Mudigere-Charmadi Ghat route. The district administration has issued a communiqué in this regard.

Sakaleshpur tahsildar Jaikumar and other officers visited the spot around 7.30 a.m. and took the decision to stop the movement of vehicles. Staff at the checkpost at Maranahalli were told to stop vehicles coming from Mangaluru.

“I appeal to motorists not to take the Shiradi Ghat route,” the tahsildar told mediapersons.

Hassan Deputy Commissioner R. Girish directed the National Highways Division of the Public Works Department to take up restoration work immediately.

In 2020, following heavy rains, a landslip had occurred on this stretch of the Shiradi Ghat.
