Landslide tears down mountain in the Rhondda after Storm Dennis

This is the moment a landslide tore down a mountain in the Rhondda following heavy rainfall caused by Storm Dennis.

The landslide happened between Tylorstown and Ferndale on Sunday morning.

Fortunately no-one is believed to have been hurt and minimal damage was caused as the ground slid down the mountain into a below culvert.

According to Rhondda AM Leanne Wood took out some electricity poles, though there are no reported power cuts in the area.

Ms Wood also added: "We are hoping it doesn't slide any more or I am told we could have a river blockage."

There has been widespread flooding across Rhondda Cynon Taf with severe flooding in Pentre, Mountain Ash, and Pontypridd.

Pontypridd town centre was completely under water on Sunday morning as the River Taff, which is subject to a severe flood warning, overflowed.

South Wales Police have now declared the flooding a "major incident."

A spokesman said: "We have declared the major incident in the wake of serious disruption caused by adverse weather across the south Wales region."

He added: "The emergency services, jointly with local authority planning departments, local health boards, and organisations such as Mountain Rescue, Natural Resources Wales and utility companies, are working continuously to ensure the safety and welfare of those affected, minimise damage to infrastructure and property, and minimise disruption."
