Landslide and fallen tree sees Neath Valley road shut for entire weekend

A road that was closed after a landslide will now be off limits all weekend.

Glynneath Road, near Resolven, Neath Port Talbot, was shut in both directions on Friday following the incident - which also saw a tree fall onto the road.

Officials were up at the site for most of the afternoon to assess the situation.

Cabinet member Edward V. Latham said: "The road will remain closed all weekend whilst debris and trees are removed from the road and hillside.

"Specialist equipment is required to be brought in to enable the clearance of trees on the hillside and the stability of the landslip area affected will be further assessed on Monday afternoon."

A spokesman for the force's roads policing unit said: "The B4242 Glynneath Road is closed in both directions at Resolven roundabout due to a landslide and tree across the carriageway.

"Please choose an alternative route and take care out there."

In the meantime, motorists across Wales are being urged to take care on the roads amid treacherous conditions.

Although The Met Office's weather warning is only in place until 6pm on Friday, more rain and wind is forecast this weekend.
