Landon Collins wants fans to make up nickname for his secondary

Washington Redskins safety Landon Collins isn’t into the idea of making up a nickname for his secondary.

He wants to leave that responsibility to the fans — a nickname is something earned, not doled out without reason, obviously.

Collins spoke about this dynamic with Richmond.com’s Michael Phillips recently: “Oh no, we don’t have a nickname yet. You’ve gotta let the fans make that up. You can’t just give yourself a nickname.”

Of course, the Redskins nicknamed themselves “Flight Marshals” last year and were really buying into it at one point. Fast forward a little while though, D.J. Swearinger was on the outs for comments about the team and the Redskins traded for help in the secondary.

Collins is a fresh reset for the secondary in the biggest way possible and he’s clearly making a point to set the tone — any nicknames will be earned.
