Landon Collins says Giants let him go as part of culture change

New Washington Redskins safety Landon Collins was disappointed the New York Giants didn’t do more to retain him in free agency.

And while Collins loves where he’s at now, he’s had some more time to reflect on the events that led to his leaving the Big Apple.

Let Collins tell it, some of his outspoken ways are why the Giants didn’t do much in an effort to retain him, as he told ESPN’s Jordan Raanan:

“I know with myself, [Harrison], Odell, [Vernon], all we wanted to do was win, and we spoke up because we had to get them to listen to us,” Collins said. “We had to get them to get us winning pieces to help us at least be contenders.

“I think we were too vocal, and that platform was bigger than the Giants, you know, and our words stood out more. And … if it’s not good media, they don’t want that kind of media.”

It is an interesting set of comments considering the circumstances. These Redskins, after all, took issue with players like D.J. Swearinger speaking out last year.

But to say there are differences between the Redskins and Giants would be an understatement. The Redskins were in first place last year before disaster struck in the injury department. And the Redskins were willing to open up the checkbook to bring aboard Collins.

Funnily enough, Collins is part of a culture shift in Washington, too.
