Landon Collins has big praise for Matt Ioannidis

Matt Ioannidis isn’t a name that makes the rounds often.

Don’t tell Washington Redskins safety Landon Collins.

Collins, the new face of the Redskins defense and leader off the field, made a point to highlight one of the team’s lesser-known-but-better defenders.

Here’s Collins on Ioannidis, per Redskins.com’s Jacob Steinberg: “He’s always willing to work, he admits his wrongs and his faults and corrects them and learns from them. When you see that in a player, you’re gonna get a lot of great things from him, you’re gonna get a lot of building, you’re gonna get a lot of consistency from him.

It’s fair to say Ioannidis doesn’t get the credit he deserves. The team awarded him with an extension over the offseason. In 2018, he was elite in a notable area.

This year, Ioannidis has played in eight games, notching nine hurries, five quarterback knockdowns, 3.5 sacks and 17 pressures with 40 tackles, missing just two.

Maybe Ioannidis has the heavyweight status of a Daron Payne or Jonathan Allen, but he’s got the attention of guys like Collins.
