A Speers Point landmark has had people talking since hitting the market this month.
Built circa 1926, the Speers Point Garage at 155 Main Road serviced the community for over 70 years before ceasing operation as a service station around 30 years ago.
The local heritage-listed building retains its original facade and agent Shaun Elms, of Ray White Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, reported strong interest during its first week on the market. He told the Newcastle Herald he had issued 15 contracts after the first open last weekend and, according to realestate.com.au data, it was one of the nation's most searched properties online that week.

Mr Elms said early interest had been "mixed", with prospective buyers looking at re-purposing the building as "a 50s-style cafe" or incorporating the facade into a potential residential development, subject to council approval.
"It's a good location and one of those buildings that's iconic, which is why I think it has generated a lot of interest," Mr Elms said.
The property is on a level 809 square metre block with a 21-metre frontage and located around 500 metres from Lake Macquarie. It is zoned R3 medium to high density.
It is set for an on site auction on March 28 with guide of $390,000 and is open again Saturday at 10.30am.
