CHIANG MAI — A dormitory owner’s son in Chiang Mai has warned other landlords after discovering a room filled with piles of rubbish and a foul smell after long-term tenants moved out, with the air conditioner and fan left running.
The incident came to light after Facebook user Keng Indigo on Monday posted photos and videos of one of his mother’s rooms in Chiang Mai community groups, urging other accommodation providers to beware of renting to the offenders.
The post said a couple had rented the room in the Chang Khlan area of Muang district for more than three years. According to the owner, they frequently paid rent late but the landlord repeatedly allowed payment extensions out of sympathy.
After asking the couple to leave, the owner’s son unlocked the room to inspect it but struggled to open the door because of the large amount of rubbish blocking the entrance.
Inside, he found piles of garbage covering most of the room, including empty bottles, drink cans, used sanitary pads and bottles filled with urine. Only a narrow walkway remained clear. The tenants had also left the air conditioner and an electric fan switched on before leaving.
The owner said they had previously seen similar cases reported in the news but never expected it to happen at their own property.
Mr Keng said he is now in the process of cleaning the room and removing the rubbish, which is expected to take one to two days.
