Landlord’s selfless act of kindness for tenant amid coronavirus uncertainty

As the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus continue to rise in the UK, uncertainty around the coming weeks also continues to grow.

With many people in self-isolation and unable to go to work, questions about money and bills are beginning to pile up.

But thankfully there are people out there helping to spread a little kindness at this stressful time.

Amy Gledhill who works as an actress, has gone viral on social media after sharing the thoughtful message she recently received from her landlord, Chris.

Instead of chasing for payments, Chris reassured Amy, who lives in Manchester, that no matter what happens, they will be able to work something out and not to worry.

His message read: “Hi Amy, given everything that seems to be going on with Covid-19, I wanted to let you know that whatever happens with your work, I want you to feel secure in the house.

“We can work something out if your circumstances change and I hope you know we’re approachable.”

He added: “We’re living in a crazy time so take care of yourself and your family.”

Amy shared a screenshot of this on Twitter, captioning it saying: “My landlord just text me this and I'm sobbing.

“LANDLORDS, TAKE NOTE. If you're in a position to say this to someone, please do. When we can't rely on the government, we've got to help each other.”

More than 25,000 people have liked her post, with over 3,500 retweeting it.

One person replied: “Most landlords wouldn’t do this, what a lovely gentlemen he is #ThankyouMrLandlord.”

Another commented: “Chris Landlord is a bloody decent human being. Be like Chris Landlord.”

A third proclaimed: “This has made me well up (which has been happening lots recently- think it’s a combination of events plus high temp). Well done to Chris Landlord.”

The UK currently has 1,950 confirmed cases of coronavirus and so far a total of 56 people have died because of Covid-19.

The true number of Covid-19 infections was likely much higher than this though, as patients with mild symptoms are not being tested and other carriers may not be showing any symptoms.

The latest advice for people across the country is to avoid gatherings and social spaces, such as pubs and restaurants, work from home if you can.

People are also urged to self-isolate for 14 days if they are experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19 and those living with them should do the same.

Those people should, if possible, avoid leaving the house "even to buy food or essentials" - but they may leave the house "for exercise and, in that case, at a safe distance from others"
