Landlord Grosvenor has moved to help restaurants across its Mayfair and Belgravia estate by funding an extension of the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme.
The Duke of Westminster’s property group said tenants wanting to participate will in September be able to offer diners half price meals, up to the value of £10, every Monday to Wednesday. They will be reimbursed by Grosvenor in the form of reduced rent.
The current discounting scheme runs in August. It is a move by the Government aimed at helping to boost the hospitality sector, most of which had to shut sites in March for the Covid-19 lockdown and could only reopen them from July 4.
Amelia Bright, executive director of the London estate at Grosvenor Britain & Ireland said Eat Out to Help Out has been a huge boost to the economy and gave people confidence in socialising again. But she added: “Central London is not yet back on its feet.”
Footfall in the capital has been hurt by travel restrictions and office workers doing their jobs from home.
Tenants that will benefit from Grosvenor’s help include Pizza Pilgrims, Prezzo and The Mayfair Chippy.
Vivienne King, chief executive of retail property organisation Revo, said the move shows property owners "are being pragmatic, flexible and innovative to support occupiers through this extremely challenging period”.
