Landing craft beached on Weston-super-Mare slipway

Crews working on a 80-tonne landing vessel fell foul of 'the old Weston tide' and grounded onto the beach's slipway.

Luckily, the craft called 'Severn Sins' was not damaged during the incident today (Tuesday, October 20).

The vessel was being moved from Falmouth by the RNLI to help restore Birnbeck Pier, when it became beached.

Weston's Coastguard Rescue Team have been helping to relaunch the ship.

Member Jeff Gunton said: "It seems to have become a victim of the good old Weston tide.

"We are just waiting until high tide for enough water for it to float out again.

"There was no damage or oil spill - quite lucky really."

On the Birnbeck Regeneration Trust Facebook page, a spokesperson said work on the pier was still continuing.

They said: "Despite the obvious hang up, work continues at the Pier this afternoon as the tide recedes."
