Landemer Day enjoyed warm weather in first full event for four years

Landemer Day organisers got their wish on Saturday, as the warm weather made for a day to remember at the town’s first full extravaganza in four years.

Roughly 40 stalls were set up on the Main Street by local charities and vendors, alongside a selection of fairground rides, face painting and a balloon modeller, who all helped put on a fun-filled day for all the family.

Landemer committee chair Jim Nixon said: “The day went well. There’s always wee hiccups but the weather made for a brilliant day.

“After the Main Street was closed off last year due to high winds, it was great to see such a brilliant day on Saturday.

“All the stall holders said it was worthwhile coming down, and Ruby was a brilliant Landemer Queen, alongside all the girls supporting her.

“The entertainment this year was one of the best and folk were dancing in the street all day.

“I would like to say a bug thanks to all planners, stall holders and everyone involved in making Landemer Day what it was, a great day.”

Hundreds of locals thronged the Main Street to watch Rutherglen High pupil Ruby Noble crowned as Landemer Queen by well-known local resident Margaret McFarlane after last year’s main event was cancelled due to high winds, with the pageant ceremonies taking place indoors.

Ruby was accompanied by her champion Cpl Daniel Stoke, along with her ladies in waiting - Lunasha Mungara and Aimee McLaughlin of Trinity High School, Zoe Van Den Brink and Molly McNee of Stonelaw High School and Carly Roberts and Emma Brown of Cathkin High School.

And after Ruby formally declared the day open, the crowd were treated to entertainment from Cambuslang Parish Church Pipe Band, The Performance Academy and the Rutherglen & Cambuslang Rock ‘n’ Pop Chorus.

More performers then entertained the masses, including the Bronx Show Band, Robyn Taylor, Jeremy Levif and Simon Sims.

The fun didn't stop there, as youngsters got to experience an army transport vehicle and fire engine, alongside the variety of fairground rides.
