Land Rover smashes into two young children on busy street leaving them seriously hurt

Two children have been seriously injured after being hit by Land Rover in a horror smash.

An air ambulance landed at the scene to take the young victims of the smash to hospital.

They were hit by the vehicle in Ashton, Greater Manchester, late this afternoon.

The crash happened on Oldham Road in Tameside, just before 4pm.

A White Land Rover collided with two child pedestrians both aged under five, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

Paramedics and police raced to the scene and the road was closed between Taunton Road and Newmarket Road.

Both children have been taken to hospital and their injuries have been described as "serious", the Manchester Evening News report.

The driver stayed at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries, a GMP spokesperson said.

Transport for Greater Manchester urged people to "avoid the area if possible."

One witness said: “The mother was crying so loudly."

Another said: “It’s terrible, we were so shocked."
