Land Rover driver who died in crash with lorry is named as inquest opens

A Land Rover driver who died following a crash with a HGV has been named as Paul Anthony Hargreaves.

An inquest opened into the 38-year-old fisherman's death at Bolton Coroner's Court today (Tuesday, December 23).

Police coroners' officer Benjamin Dobbs told the court Mr Hargreaves, of Ellenbrook, was driving along Mosley Common Road, Tyldesley, with a passenger on December 15.

"He struck a nearside kerb, which caused the vehicle to veer across the carriageway into the lane of a HGV and there was a collision," Mr Dobbs said.

"He was pronounced life extinct at the scene by paramedics at 10.50pm."

Senior coroner for Manchester West Timothy Brennand confirmed the preliminary cause of death has been recorded as 'multiple injuries'.

Mr Dobbs told the court a police investigation is ongoing, but believes no charges will be brought.

Greater Manchester Police previously confirmed the passenger in the Land Rover and the HGV driver both suffered minor injuries.

Mr Brennand asked for statements from Mr Hargreaves' GP and the road traffic department.

The inquest was adjourned until May 24 2021.
