A review of 30-year-old land acquisition laws is complete after the federal government paid more than 10 times the value of a triangle of land for Western Sydney Airport.
"That review is finalised and being considered by government," senior finance department official Nick Hunt said at a Senate estimates hearing on Thursday.
Quizzed by Labor's Katy Gallagher, Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said he expected to introduce amendments to the Lands Acquisition Act in the next 12 months.
The Commonwealth paid $30 million plus GST for the 12-hectare Leppington triangle in a 2018 land deal. It was later valued at $3 million.
An independent review found a series of bureaucratic bungles but cleared public servants of any wrongdoing.
