UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Lance Gibson Jr. makes his Bellator debut on Friday at Bellator 231. When he sits foot in the cage, he will become half of the latest father-son duo to compete on a major MMA platform.
Gibson Jr. (2-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who is the son of two-fight UFC veteran Lance Gibson, is set to fight Dominic Jones (2-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at Bellator 231 in what he hopes will be his career breakthrough moment.
Fighting on this stage has long been a dream for Gibson Jr., and he said he felt compelled – not obligated – to continue the family legacy.
“I didn’t feel forced into it,” Gibson Jr. told MMA Junkie at Bellator 231 media day. “It was actually my choice. On my first amateur fight they didn’t want me to fight at all. I said I’m going to do it and I went out and dominated and I’ve been addicted ever since.”
Bellator 231 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Gibson Jr. vs. Jones is part of the prelims, which stream on MMA Junkie prior to the main card on DAZN.
