Lance Briggs thought about punching Jay Cutler, he tells NFL Network

Aug. 12--If recent jabs from a former teammate and media have made Jay Cutler feel like a punching bag, at least he could try to convince himself no one literally wanted to take a swing at him. That is, until Wednesday.

Lance Briggs admitted during an appearance on NFL Network that he has thought about punching Cutler. During a discussion about Jets quarterback Geno Smith, whose jaw was broken after now former teammate IK Enemkpali punched him Tuesday, Andrew Siciliano asked, "Tell the truth, did you ever want to punch Jay Cutler?"

"There have been times, yeah," Briggs said. "But we've had a lot of quarterbacks (who I've wanted to punch). Why didn't I do it? Because out of respect."

Siciliano ticked off a list of former Bears not-so-greats.

"Craig Krenzel?"

"Wanted to punch him a couple times," the Bears linebacker said while punching his hand.

"Caleb Hanie?"

"Wanted to punch him four times against the AFC," said Briggs, who smacked his hand.

Briggs said he didn't want to punch Brian Griese or Kyle Orton, but smiled when asked about Rex Grossman.

"I wanted to punch Rex Grossman in Miami," he said. Grossman threw two interceptions -- one of which was returned for a touchdown -- during the Bears' Super Bowl loss to the Colts in Miami in 2007.

Kordell Stewart and Jonathan Quinn were imaginary punching bags too.

"Yes, I wanted to punch (Quinn) because the defense was on the field 90 plays a game (in 2004)," Briggs told Siciliano.
