Nov. 26--Lance Briggs' groin injury could sideline him for "maybe a few weeks," he said Tuesday night on his TV show on Comcast SportsNet. That means the Chicago Bears' veteran linebacker likely will miss Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions.
Briggs said he had an MRI exam Tuesday, which should provide a more definitive outlook as this week progresses.
His admitted prognosis contradicts coach Marc Trestman's description of his status as day-to-day. Trestman, however, has described several injured players this season as day-to-day when in reality their respective injury was serious enough to miss multiple games.
Second-year linebacker Jon Bostic likely would replace Briggs on the weak-side of the base defense.
Briggs said he got hurt while trying to jam Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans during a short pass route. He left the game before halftime and did not return.
"I think I somehow got locked in on him," Briggs said. "I got twerked a little bit and pulled out. It kind of felt like I did the splits. When I fell and tried to get up, I knew something was wrong."
Briggs, 34, missed three games earlier this season due to a rib injury. His contract is scheduled to expire at the end of this season.
