Lancashire’s Liam Livingstone will miss Monday’s one-day match against Hampshire after being struck by a glass in an Ashford bar celebrating the Twenty20 quarter-final victory over Kent on Saturday night.
It is understood that Livingstone, 22, became involved in a mêlée at the town’s Auction House establishment shortly before midnight, triggered when some jovial pushing among the Lancashire players resulted in another man nearby being knocked.
Although an apology was allegedly offered, it was not accepted and in the scuffle that followed, involving several players, Livingstone suffered a facial injury after being struck with a glass.
Kent police were called and a spokesperson confirmed they are looking into the incident.
A statement from Lancashire read: “Lancashire County Cricket Club is aware of an incident that took place on Saturday evening involving some of our players.
“The matter is currently being investigated by the police and nobody from the club will be making any further comment at this stage.”
Ashley Giles is expected to comment on the incident after the Royal London One-Day Cup game against Hampshire.
Livingstone remains with the squad in Southampton but will not be considered for selection at the Ageas Bowl despite hitting a match-winning 91 on his List A debut in the club’s last Royal London Cup outing, also against Kent at Canterbury.
Earlier this summer the big-hitting batsman made headlines for his on-field exploits when he struck 350 for Nantwich against Caldy in a limited overs National Club Championship contest – a 138-ball innings that contained 34 fours and 27 sixes.
