Lanarkshire woman left shaken after early morning assault

A woman has been left “extremely upset” after she was knocked to the ground by a man in Cumbernauld.

Now police are asking for help in identifying the culprit of the assault.

The 21-year-old woman was assaulted as she walked along Hill Road at around 5.25am this morning (Sunday, July 18).

DC Katy Goldie told Lanarkshire Live: “The woman was walking near to the underpass at Berryhill Road when a man approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground.

“She was unhurt but extremely upset by the incident.

“We are carrying out a review of CCTV and door to door enquiries in effort to identify the man.”

The man is described as between 5ft 5in to 6ft tall, of thin build, with blonde / ginger hair and wearing a light coloured baseball cap at the time.

DC Goldie added: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who witnessed the assault, or anyone who has information that will assist this investigation to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
