Lanarkshire woman claims top award at national saddlery competition

Lanarkshire woman Jenna McCall has captured a top award at this year’s Society of Master Saddlers’ National Saddlery competition.

Held at the Saddlers’ Hall in London and supported by The Worshipful Company of Saddlers, the event continues to be hugely popular in promoting expertise and craftsmanship in the saddlery industry.

Jenna, who is at the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, won the In Hand Stallion Show Bridle conforming to Level 3 City and Guilds Skills Assessment specification – and was also second in the Trainee Saddle class to round off a fantastic evening for her.

Jenna said: “It has been a fantastic evening to win an award and also take home a second is just brilliant.

“I am in my third year of training and love what I do. It really is about the attention to detail and looking at every element to make sure you don’t miss anything.

“Both the bridle and the saddle took a lot of work but it is great to put forward entries for the National Saddlery Competition and also to see all the other entries.”

Society of Master Saddlers’ chief executive, Hazel Morley added: “We were delighted that so many entries came forward and as ever gave our judges much to think about when choosing the winners.

“The occasion is always such a highlight on the calendar and everyone involved was so pleased we could hold the event this year having moved it from its usual February date.”
